The existing Garden Acres Community Park Master Plan dates back to 1986 and the first phase of the park opened in 1989. Most phases of the Garden Acres Master Plan have been implemented, however, a few elements of the plan (such as a new Recreation Center) have not been constructed due to lack of funding and space constraints. Due to aging facilities and lack of ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance, the City is developing plans to renovate the park and update the Master Plan. Initial renovations will focus on replacement of amenities that have reached or exceeded their useful life in an effort to keep Garden Acres Community Park safe and enjoyable for all users.
(June 24, 2015) The Garden Acres Master Plan Update/Park Renewal Plan was approved by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on June 8, 2015 and was also approved by City Council on June 23, 2015. Links to the Master Plan Update/Park Renewal Plan graphics are below:

March 2015 Planning and Design Update
The City is working with a team of consultants lead by BHA Design to develop a Master Plan Update/Park Renewal Plan. The preliminary plan is nearing completion and will be available for public input in April. Please check the website to view the plans and/or contact the Project Manager to be placed on a contact list to receive updates. The Master Plan/Park Renewal Plan will depict the vision for revitalization of the park in the short term and the long term. The next step, after finalization of the Master Plan Update/Park Renewal Plan, will involve design development and implementation of the improvements in Phases. Phase 1, which will be implemented in 2015, is installation of a new irrigation pump system and pump building near the pond. Future phases 2 and 3, which are funded in 2016 and 2017 will require prioritization of available funds. Current funding is not sufficient to implement everything shown on the Master Plan Update, however it is intended to fund high priority park renewal needs and bring the park back to its intended high level of quality and service. Priorities in 2016/2017 include replacement of the playgrounds, renovations to the restrooms, concessions and other structures throughout the park, lighting, concrete improvements, fencing, park amenities and site furniture such as drinking fountains, benches, picnic tables, bleachers, trash receptacles, etc. Staff and the consulting team will be seeking input from the community to assist in prioritizing these park renewal items to develop renewal plans for phases 2 and 3.
March 2015 Playgrounds Update - The playground structures at Garden Acres were removed in the Fall of 2014 due to vandalism and ongoing safety hazards. Funding is available in 2016 for replacement of the playgrounds and design and planning is underway. We appreciate your patience during this upcoming summer season as we plan for the best location and design for the replacement playgrounds.
