Break out those crayons! Longmont Power & Communications is celebrating Public Power Week this year with a coloring contest, in which participants have the chance to have their work posted online and win a $50 downtown gift card.

The coloring pages, which celebrate public power and reinforce electric safety lessons, can be found online at https://www.longmontcolorado.gov/publicpowerweek, along with the contest rules. All entries must be submitted by Oct. 13, 2018, and should also finish the sentence “I love LPC’s electricity because ….” A winner will be randomly drawn from all the entrants.

“We belong to our customers, and that’s where our focus is – the people who live, work, and play alongside us,” LPC general manager Tom Roiniotis said. “They’re our owners and our neighbors. This is a fun way to remind our neighbors, young and old, how to stay safe around the electricity we all value so much.”

Child-themed safety tips can also be found online at the LPC Kids Corner, by going to www.longmontcolorado.gov/LPCKidsCorner, and choosing “Power Safety.” Tips for the whole community may also be found at www.longmontcolorado.gov/LPC by going to “Electric Service” and then “Safety and Education.”

Held in the first full week of October, Public Power Week (Oct. 7-13) celebrates the more than 2,000 community-owned not-for-profit electric utilities that provide power to 49 million Americans. That includes LPC, which has the second-lowest residential electric rates in Colorado out of 58 utilities and was recognized by the American Public Power Association this year as being in the top quartile nationally for reliability.

Participants in the contest must be part of a home, business, or school that gets their electricity from LPC. There is no age restriction or entry fee. Entries may be submitted by either:

1. Mailing or hand-delivering them to 1100 S. Sherman St., Longmont, CO 80501. Entries should say “Attn: Public Power Week contest” on the envelope and include contact information.
2. Emailing a picture of the entry to LPC@longmontcolorado.gov.  
3. Sending a picture by private message to LPC’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/longmontpowercommunicationsnextlight/.
