Native American Documentary Film Series: Two Rivers & Home from School

Native American Documentary Film Series
In recognition of Native American Heritage Month and in complement to our Tipi to Tiny House exhibit, the Museum is presenting four documentary films over the course of three Sunday afternoons in November. The films will have a special focus on the Northern Arapaho of the Wind River Reservation, whose traditional territory includes what is now Longmont.

Each film screening is free and will conclude with an audience Q&A.

TWO RIVERS (1996)
Part history lesson, part deeply felt emotion, and part fascinating story of an unlikely solution to a dark time in American history, this award winning PBS documentary tells the true story of a Native American reconciliation group in North Central Washington State. As the regions (and later the Nations) history of cruelty, racism, and ignorance toward Native Americans is told, the whites are deeply affected. Word begins circulating around the reservations that something unusual is happening among a group of whites and Indians. Curious whites hear about Indians traveling to their community, and start attending. What follows is an amazing story of changed hearts, friendships between enemies, and ultimately, astonishing community renewal and transformation.

HOME FROM SCHOOL: THE CHILDREN FROM CARLISLE (2021)1106_Home-From-School-Poster-
In 2017, a delegation of Northern Arapaho tribal members traveled from Wyoming to Pennsylvania to retrieve remains of three children who died at Carlisle Indian Industrial school in the 1880s. It’s a journey into the troubled history of Indian boarding schools and a quest to heal generational wounds.
