The Elisa Garcia Trio & Fruta Brutal: Live in Concert
About the Event
The Elisa Garcia Trio plays Latin American folk songs from Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, down to Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay. Bringing rhythms like huapango, boleros, cumbias, zambas, and candombes, the trio takes listeners on a journey through Latin America. Comprised of Uruguayan singer/guitarist, Elisa Garcia, Mexican percussionist Leo Munoz-Corona, (who has toured with artists like Willie Colon, Jaguares, Lucero, Juanes and many more), and world-renowned Venezuelan pianist Victor Mestas. www.monaelisa.com
Fruta Brutal emerged from MartÃn Better Longo’s search for an identity as an immigrant born in Ecuador and living in the US. During his travels in South America, MartÃn was especially moved by the music of Brazilian artists that emerged from the Tripicália movement. Through the use of musical synthesis, the Tropicalistas created music that resisted the authoritarian regime of the 60 and 70s in Brazil, while being relevant and progressive in the aesthetic landscape of Brazilian and international culture.
Fruta Brutal seeks to be part of, and support, the ripening of cultural fruits that fight to move us forward during times of backward brutality. Fruta Brutal has performed at the iconic Tipitina’s venue of New Orleans, as well as immigration and social justice related events, such as the Latinx Festival of Colorado and the Immigrants are Beautiful Tour, opening for the nationally acclaimed band: Making Movies. Fruta Brutal’s songbook showcases an eclectic repertoire of disco/electro and Latin rock compositions in English, Spanish, and Spanglish.
