Virtual Art & Sip: Greeting Cards (Watercolor)

Join Museum instructor Ms. Leigh for this FREE series that explores the whimsical nature of watercolor. We will learn a few techniques in each class. Watercolor projects include greeting cards and a sunset-on-the-water scene inspired by our Enduring Impressions exhibit.
Supplies Needed
- Multiple pieces of watercolor paper or cardstock
- Plastic palette or plate to mix paints
- Paper towels or cotton painting towels
- Water containers for washing brushes
- Something plastic to cover your workspace (like a garbage bag)
- Masking Tape
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Paint brushes: 1/2″ flat, 1/4″ flat, 1/2″ filbert, 1 medium round, 2 small rounds for tiny lines
- A watercolor set with at least these colors (paint names in parenthesis):
- Warm Brown (Burnt Sienna)
- Dark Brown (Burnt Umber)
- True Blue (Ultramarine)
- Blue green (Phtalo Blue/Green)
- Green (Hooker’s green or Sap Green)
- Yellow (Cadmium Yellow Light)
- Cool Red (Alizarin Crimson)
- Warm Red (Cadmium Red Hue)
- Violet (Dioxazine Purple)
- Black (Lamp or Ivory Black

About the Instructor:
Leigh Putman is an artist and educator who has been the Program Leader at the Longmont Museum since 2017. As the Program Leader she plans and teaches programs such as Discovery Days (for kids 2-6 years old), summer camps, and art programs for adults. Before joining the Longmont Museum, Leigh was an art teacher and a museum restoration specialist. Her educational background includes a BFA in Painting with a Minor in Art History. In her home studio, Leigh finds inspiration in botanical subjects and in photos of everyday moments that she has taken throughout her life. Leigh’s favorite mediums are watercolor, acrylic, and pen & ink.
