Community Building Resilience Program
Start a neighborhood group.
What is a neighborhood group?
-
- A neighborhood group is an inclusive group of people empowered to collectively address shared interests or concerns and creates positive change in their neighborhood. Please note that a neighborhood group is separate from a Homeowners Association (HOA). HOAs represent homeowners, while a neighborhood group benefits everyone who lives in a neighborhood.
How do I start a neighborhood group? By participating in the Community Building and Resilience Program (CBR).
-
- Community building is the process of forming connections and relationships between neighbors so they can work together to create positive change in their neighborhoods. Community building strengthens neighborhoods and makes them more resilient, which means they can better handle change and difficulties when they happen (Resiliency for All and Building Resilient Neighborhoods).
-
- CBR helps create new neighborhood groups and strengthen existing ones through:
- Leadership Trainings for Community Leaders
- Bring together a Leadership Team of 4-8 neighbors (no commitment required). We’ll help your Leadership Team identify helpful skills to develop and facilitate custom trainings just the team. After attending trainings, the Leadership Team will feel confident in forming and leading a neighborhood group.

-
- Hosting a Community Organizing Meeting
- If your neighborhood group doesn’t exist yet, we’ll guide you through the process of hosting your first community meeting where neighbors come together, get to know one another, and decide to form a neighborhood group.

How else can CBR benefit my neighborhood?
-
- Community Workshops for your neighborhood
- Does your neighborhood have specific concerns or interests they want to learn more about? We can provide custom workshops on a variety of topics to make sure your neighborhood has the information it needs to make decisions and improve your community’s quality of life.

-
- Facilitating a Community Visioning Day!
- After your Leadership Team attends one Leadership Training, we can help you host a Community Visioning Day. This is an exciting event where the neighborhood comes together to identify strengths, areas of growth, and community goals. Together, neighbors will create an action plan to meet those goals, host community events, and plan projects that benefit the whole neighborhood.

-
- Events to promote joining the neighborhood group
- Hosting a fun community event can build excitement and momentum around forming and strengthening a neighborhood group. We can potentially provide support for these kinds of events. They can include things like a Family Fun Day, Ice Cream Social, or a Movie in the Park. Creativity encouraged! Click on this link to learn more about the Discover Neighbors Grant.Â
