Willow Farm Neighborhood Park
Community Park Hours: 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Garden Acres Community Park was initially developed in 1989 and was the third community park built in Longmont. The park was recently updated and features a lighted softball four-plex, soccer fields, batting cages, a cricket pitch, shelters, playgrounds, an irrigation pond and walking paths. The Oligarchy Ditch Primary Greenway Trail also runs through the park. In 1994, Longmont's Art in Public Places Committee commissioned local artist Jerry Boyle to create a life-size bronze sculpture for the south entrance to the park, "Free-For-All," a whimsical portrait of three children at play.
In 2018 and 2019, Garden Acres Park was the focus of a park renewal project, funded in part by the Colorado Lottery. Due to the consistent high level of use throughout the years, the park was in significant disrepair prior to the renewal project and had been designated a priority for renewal in the City's 2014 Master Parks Plan. The primary goal of the project was to re-establish a safe, usable, accessible, and enjoyable experience for everyone at Garden Acres. Phase 1 of the project focused on the irrigation system and was completed in 2018. Phase 2 of the project was a full renovation of the 4-plex sports complex which included a new restroom building, 2 new playgrounds, dugout, scorebooth, and shelter renovations, landscape and irrigation upgrades, new site furniture, a new trash enclosure structure, parking lot improvements, lighting improvements and concrete renovations. Phase 2 was completed in 2019. Crime prevention and ADA compliance were prominent in the Park’s redesign. Of the just over $5 million dollars spent on the project, almost $2 million was provided by the Colorado Lottery. The rest was funded with the City’s Public Improvement Fund and the Park and Greenway Maintenance Fee Fund. On July 27, 2021 Colorado Lottery officials presented the Longmont City Council with the Starburst Award, recognizing the City’s exceptional use of lottery dollars in a park renewal project. With completion of this park renewal project, Garden Acres Community Park is once again a safe, inviting, fully functional park for ball players, visitors, dog walkers, and general park users to enjoy and take pride in.
