Flock Cameras
Longmont Public Safety has an agreement with with Flock to provide innovative and effective tools for enhancing public safety while prioritizing privacy and transparency. Flock Safety is a public safety operating system that helps various entities work together to stop crime, protect privacy, and mitigate bias. Flock currently serves HOAs, neighborhood associations, businesses, law enforcement agencies, schools, cities, and counties.
Flock Safety and its technologies, focuses on Automatic License Plate Readers (ALPR) and their benefits for law enforcement. Automatic License Plate Readers are a valuable resource to law enforcement to reduce crime.
These readers assist law enforcement in the following ways:
-
- Capture computer-readable images of license plates to help law enforcement compare plate numbers against those of stolen cars or cars involved in criminal activities.
- They can determine if a vehicle was at a crime scene and discover associated cars.
- ALPRs can integrate data from national or state crime databases for real-time alerts.
- Significantly increase the detection and recovery of stolen vehicles.
- Flock Safety communities have reported significant crime reductions using ALPR systems.
Additionally, Longmont Police have access to a Flock Safety Falcon. The Falcon is a solar-powered, motion-activated camera that captures detailed vehicle information and integrates with crime databases for real-time alerts. It is infrastructure-free, connected through LTE, and performs 24/7 in any weather.
There are a number of unique features of Flock Safety ALPR:
-
- They capture highly accurate images and vehicle information beyond license plates.
- The system is designed to protect privacy, with encrypted footage stored in the cloud and deleted after 30 days unless otherwise legislated.
Flock Safety technology does not collect Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
