Summer Reading programs like this one help kids maintain critical literacy skills\, learn new things\, and engage with books while they’re not in school. Teens and adults benefit as well. Our 22 citizen-based boards\, committees\, and commissions serve as a vital link between residents and city government. These groups play a crucial role in shaping policy\, providing expertise and ensuring diverse community input. \n  \nThe Art in Public Places Commission consists of 15 members\, each of whom serves a three year term. The AIPP Commission is comprised of an active group of volunteers who approve sites for public artwork\, recruit volunteers to participate on Selection Panels\, send out calls to artists both locally and nationally and work with the AIPP Administrator to see through the entire process of selection through installation of public artwork. The AIPP program in Longmont started in 1989 and is funded by a 1 percent tax on all capital improvements projects exceeding $50\,000. \n  \nThe public is welcome to attend any advisory board meeting\, held at the Civic Center\, 350 Kimbark Street\, Study Session Room\, at 6 pm on the third Thursday of each month.

DESCRIPTION:All ages\nLibrary West Patio\n\n  \n \nLet’s celebrate the start of Summer Reading on the Library’s West Patio with punk rock band RLY ORY (pronounced early’oree)! As a sister/ sister/ dad band\, they play originals and punk covers\, influenced by Green Day\, The Ramones\, The Clash\, & NOFX. Their show is fast-paced and energetic with good grooves and great singing. The music will start at 6 pm and run until 6:30 pm\, so if you need a quieter celebration option\, join us after 6:30 pm. Come pick up everything you need for Summer Reading for Kids\, Teens\, and Adults: Summer Reading BINGO \nboards\, summer brochures\, and other resources! Librarians will be there to chat and share information about all that the Library has to offer in summer (and year-round). Lawn games will also be out to play. \n  \nSpecial thanks to the Friends of Longmont Library for funding this event and all of our Summer Reading special events and prizes! \n  \nAbout the band\n \nRLY ORY (pronounced early’oree) got their start in January 2023 performing at youth open mic nights\, & by March 2023 they performed their first set of music at a bowling alley in Fort Collins\, CO. A free pizza was happily accepted in exchange for their performance. Since this first free pizza they have played shows and festivals across Colorado & Wyoming\, rocking stages and melting faces. As a sister/ sister/ dad band\, they play originals and punk covers\, influenced by Green Day\, The Ramones\, The Clash\, & NOFX. Their show is fast-paced and energetic with good grooves and great singing. \nThe band received the “best new band 2024” nomination from the Fort Collins Music Association peer awards. \n  \nTheir debut release of two original songs was released in June/ July 2024. Available on Bandcamp as a limited edition cassette (SOLD OUT). \n  \nThe band’s newest original single “Best Summer Ever” came out in September 2025. \nRLY ORY had a busy 2025 playing close to 31 shows.
