Mon Oncle (My Uncle) 1958 | 116 minutes
Slapstick prevails when Jacques Tati’s eccentric, old-fashioned hero, Monsieur Hulot, is set loose in the geometric, oppressively ultramodern home of his brother-in-law, and in the antiseptic plastic hose factory where he gets a job. Tati’s first color film, Mon Oncle is a masterpiece of design. Deft, elusive, full of heart, the film earned the director the Academy Award for best foreign-language film. (French with English subtitles).
