Logo for Municipal Clerks Week - picture of a quill with wordingMay 3 – May 9, 2026 is Municipal Clerks Week. Municipal Clerks are the backbone of local government operations, often working behind the scenes to oversee key functions like recordkeeping, election management, legislative documentation, and maintaining public trust through transparency and accountability. Join us in recognition of the work of the City Clerk and City Clerk’s Office for serving as the professional link between the residents, the local governing bodies and agencies of government at other levels. The International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), a professional association of City, Town, Township, Village, Borough, Deputy and County Clerks with over 15,000 members, sponsors Professional Municipal Clerks Week.

The City Clerk’s Office connects residents with local government, ensuring transparency and accessibility of city records and documents. The Clerk is the official record keeper for city records and keeps the City seal, oversees elections, processes liquor, marijuana retail and specialty business licenses, issues event permits, processes records  requests, maintains the municipal code, and manages boards and commissions.
