History and Aerodynamics of the Golf Ball

“Golf is a game that needlessly prolongs the lives of some of our most useless citizens.” -Bob Hope

Robert Meroney provides a study of the controversial game of golf from its inception in the Middle Ages to modern times. Clarification about its ancestry: Holland, Scotland or Tibet? Examination of the strange and wonderful flight of the golf-ball which has been described as “lofting, soaring, shying, donking, snaking, diving, ducking, heeling, toeing, and/ or slicing.” This leads variously to the invention of the golf tee, various and strange clubs, golf rules, golf records, and the internal construction of the modern golf ball.

The presentation includes ancient pictures, stain glassed windows, multimedia animation, and jokes. Although it focuses on golf, this non-technical presentation should interest experts and duffers, golfers and non-golfers, men and women, and even sports antagonists.
