How to report a spill

Spills may compromise the safety of our community members and the environment. Some examples of spills that should be immediately reported include (but are not limited to):

• Dangerous roadway debris
• Improper disposal of paint or other hazardous materials
• Chemical dumping
• Accidental spills
• Fluid leaks from vehicles
• Landscaping materials uncontained in the roadway

You can report spills online via a ServiceWorks request. Click on "Stormwater or Drainage" and select "Report a Spill" from the drop-down menu. You can also contact the Customer Service Center at 303-651-8416 (Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm). Outside of normal business hours, you can contact Police Services at 303-651-8501.

Please do not compromise your own safety while observing and reporting a spill. Maintain a safe distance from hazardous materials. In case of emergency, dial 911.

Avoid small spills

• Store chemicals in a dry area that is protected from rain. Inspect containers for damage and to ensure leak resistance. Use an additional container if necessary.
• Keep all container lids closed.
• Don’t leave chemicals unattended while in use.
• Clean up spills immediately and use gloves and eye protection as needed.
• Dispose of cleanup materials properly.

Clean up small spills

• Be prepared for spills by keeping cleanup materials on hand.
• Do not wash any spills with water.
• Dry wipe liquid spills or use an absorbent (like kitty litter) to sop up liquids. Then, collect for proper disposal.
• Sweep up dry material spills and collect for proper disposal.
• Try to contain spills to protect any floor drains and the stormwater drainage system.
• If soil is contaminated by a spill, remove the soil and dispose of it properly.
