Celebrating Juneteenth: Short Films from Sundance Film Festival

The Museum welcomes back Sundance Film Festival for a special curated evening of short films by Black filmmakers in celebration of Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, TX to announce that all enslaved people in the state were free, officially putting an end to slavery in the United States. Co-presented with the Longmont Juneteenth Community Celebration on Saturday, June 20 from 10am to 2pm at Longmont’s Roosevelt Park.

The Boys and the Bees

On an idyllic farm in rural Georgia, young parents tenderly share their knowledge of life, love and nature with their sons while teaching them the art of beekeeping. The boys learn how to tend a beehive, and a family uses their love of nature to repair the bonds of Black fatherhood and teach stewardship of the land.

Kae wades through deep emotions surrounding the death of his father and the sudden relocation of his children, repurposing intimate family scenes from daily life by pairing them with archival materials sourced online to explore how the autobiographical model can potentially extend beyond the personal.
