As we approach Halloween and the “spooky season,” join local astrobiologist and space philosopher, Dr. Graham Lau, for an exploration of our ideas about aliens as monsters. We’ll dive into the mythological history of monsters and “otherness” and explore alien invasion scenarios from science fiction. Do our ideas about how scary alien life might be stem from our own cultural concepts of monsters, survival, and human ingenuity? Should we really be so terrified about potential malevolent alien forces out there in the cosmos? Join us to explore your favorite stories of alien invasion, but also to consider whether a meeting with alien life might be something far more hopeful and enlightening for our world. This program is generously supported by the Friends of the Longmont Library.
