Noche De Museo: Celebrating Day of the Dead
Saturday, Nov. 1 · 7 pm - 8:30 pm Longmont Museum 400 Quail Rd., Longmont, CO 80501
Featuring poet ZBassSpeaks, dance by Grupo Mexica Tlahuitzcalli, and the music of iZCALLi.
Join us in our Stewart Auditorium for an evening of live performances in celebration of Dia de Muertos that will span the ages, from ancient Aztecan dance with Grupo Mexica Tlahuitzcalli to the genre-bending rock and roll of iZCALLi. This annual community celebration of a centuries-old Mexican tradition has quickly become part of the cultural fabric of Longmont.
ZBassSpeaks, the poet with the copper voice is a multi award winning twin spirited indigenous spoken word artist. Z became the first Poet Laureate of Lafayette as of April 2022. The Colorado-born poet has been speaking/performing in the Denver Metro area since 2008. With the mission to speak on social issues and to promote unity, literacy, and creativity through poetry, Z uses traditional forms and radical fusions of art and poetry.
Grupo Mexica Tlahuitzcalli is a traditional Aztec dance troupe that performs around Colorado and across the Front Range. They return to the Longmont Museum for another year of Noche de Museo.
iZCALLi is a genre-bending rock band pushing the sonic envelope of conventional Latin sounds. Miguel Aviña (Lead Guitar/Vocals), Brenda Aviña (Bass) and Luiggy RamÃrez (Drums) supported by a cast of some of Denver’s premier musicians, combine to create music for the relentless, the determined…the immigrant song. Inherently authentic and undeniably refreshing. iZCALLi swigs its evolving sound from all wells of tradition, from Latin-tinged echoes to fuzz rock anthems saturated with rebellious spirit in English and in Espaiñol; creating the perfect molotov of nostalgia and euphoria, equal parts sweet and intoxicating. iZCALLi’s music ignites a sonic space to reconnect yourself with the present, to join what you’ve left behind with what you will recover, discover your heart, so you know you are home.
