The Good Old Days: America Misremembered

Thursday, Jan. 29 · 7 pm - 9 pm
Longmont Museum 400 Quail Rd., Longmont, CO 80501

A conversation with Greg Dickinson, Professor, Department Chair, and Founding Director of Joe Blake Center for Engaged Humanities at Colorado State University, Jeremy Morton, Exhibit Developer and Historian at History Colorado, and more.

Amidst a rapidly changing society, anxiety can drive desire for a return to a past that never was. Join us for an exploration of America’s unique brand of nostalgia and the cost we pay for romanticizing our history.

Greg Dickinson holds the William E. Morgan Endowed Professor, serves as the Interim Chair of Art and Art History, and is the Founding Director of the Joe Blake Center for Engaged Humanities at Colorado State University. He is an award-winning scholar and teacher whose work advances critical and theoretical understanding of memory, place, materiality, race, gender, and everyday life. He has published in communication, cultural studies, and rhetoric journals on coffee shops, shopping malls, museums, and gentrified urban spaces. He has authored, co-authored, and co-edited five books and his scholarship has earned numerous awards.

Jeremy Morton is an exhibition developer and historian at the History Colorado Center. Formerly, he was History Colorado’s Public Engagement Manager and Education Coordinator for Community Museums. A Denver native, and 90s kid, Morton grew up frequenting the Villa Italia Mall. He went on to graduate from the University of Colorado Denver with a bachelor of arts in history, and a master of arts in curriculum and instruction.
