Join us for a free community event and conversation for Banned Books Week 2025, a national week of awareness around intellectual freedoms created by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country! Every year the ALA gathers data about censorship attempts across school and public libraries. In 2024, 72% of demands to ban books in the United States were initiated by organized pressure groups, not individual community members, according to data reported by the ALA’s Office for Intellectual Freedom*. Let’s take this time to come together to explore more about these challenges with Outlaw Production Collective’s program, Books on the Chopping Block, a 60-minute program of readings from the ALA’s Top Ten Most Challenged Books of 2024. This event is ideal for 13 years and older as there are excerpts of both Young Adult and Adult books being performed. The readings will be followed by a 30-minute conversation with your librarians from Longmont Public Library.
