Voices of Change: Stories of Migration & Music

Thursday, Sep. 25 · 7 pm - 9 pm
Longmont Museum 400 Quail Rd., Longmont, CO 80501

featuring monologists Laura Peniche, Alejandro Fuentes Mena and Cristian Solano-Córdova with violinist Anthony Salvo.

In this special collaboration, Motus Monologists – who are DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients – perform artfully crafted personal stories of immigration accompanied by violin underscore, interspersed by musical responses curated by the Boulder Phil’s Director of Education and pianist Fernanda Nieto. Regardless of your ideas about immigration policy, come together for an evening of beautiful and profound monologues, music and community, as we get to know more about our immigrant neighbors.

Co-presented with the Longmont Multicultural Action Committee and made possible with the support of the Bob Braudes & Nancy Clairmont Family Fund.

This program is part of our Thursday Nights @ the Museum series. Join us every Thursday from Sept. 11 until Dec. 11 for concerts, films, and free talks in the Longmont Museum’s Stewart Auditorium.

Motus Theater creates original theater to facilitate dialogue on critical issues of our time. They aim to use the power of art to build alliances across segments of our community and country. By creating performances that illuminate foundational patterns of exploitation in U.S. history, and sharing autobiographical stories that disrupt false and dehumanizing narratives used to justify inhumane and exploitative policies, Motus supports cultural and policy shifts that uplift our shared humanity. They support community belonging by expanding their audiences’ experiences of the variety of stories that make up our country. By using theater to learn and listen across the gaps of difference they weave tighter, stronger, and more connected communities. They invite us all to gather around the fire to share your stories and learn new ones.

Founded in 1957, the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra is creating a new model for American orchestras through dynamic performances that reflect our community’s own values, creativity, and sense of place. Today the Boulder Phil reaches audiences of more than 30,000 through concerts, the Discovery Education Program, and community engagement experiences in Boulder and across Colorado’s Front Range under the vision and leadership of Music Director Michael Butterman.
