The Civic Center is home to many City offices and departments including Affordable Housing/CDBG, Budget Office, City Attorney, City Clerk’s Office, City Manager’s Office, Community Services, Community and Neighborhood Resources, Finance, Human Resources, NextLight Internet, Purchasing & Contracts, Risk and Utility Billing.

Civic Center Rehabilitation Project 2018 – 2020

The Civic Center was built in the mid-1970s with an innovative new construction technique in which the concrete slab (floor) used steel cables pulled tight to strengthen it. But over time, those cables inside the concrete slab that forms the building’s main floor have suffered damage and need repair. The floor also has deteriorated from water pooling and seeping into joints and cracks. Is it safe to be in the building? The short answer is yes. The long answer is that the building is considered substandard when compared to building code criteria, and repairs should be completed soon.

Phase I of $5 million project to add new supports to the concrete slab and make other repairs began in May 2018 and is anticipated to be complete in September 2019.

Phase II work was added when Longmont voters approved a ballot initiative in November 2018 allowing the City to issue bonds for further rehabilitation of existing City buildings. Construction for Phase II, which includes the repairs to the Admin East portion of the Civic Center, began in July 2019 and is expected to continue through spring 2020.
