3 Easy Ways to Shop Local and Support Longmont

The holidays are fast approaching! This season, we encourage you to shop local and support Longmont’s incredible small businesses. Shopping local strengthens our community and promotes sustainability. When you shop at local businesses, more of your dollars stay within the community—helping our economy thrive. In fact, small businesses generate $68 in local economic return for every $100 spent, meaning your holiday purchases directly benefit Longmont’s workers, families, and neighborhoods.

With the variety of unique and sustainable businesses in Longmont, you’ll find gifts that stand out—whether it’s a handmade item, a meal at a local restaurant, or an unforgettable local experience. Shopping local also reduces the environmental impact of the season, making it easier to give sustainably while supporting our community.

How Shopping Local Helps the Planet

  • Fewer Carbon Emissions: Locally sourced products travel shorter distances, lowering transportation-related emissions.
  • Less Packaging Waste: Local businesses often use minimal or eco-friendly packaging. Plus, you can bring your own reusable bags—something you can’t do when buying online.
  • Support for Sustainable Farming: When you buy food locally, you can choose organic or sustainably grown products that help protect soil health and reduce the need for harmful chemicals.
  • Fresher, Less Wasteful Options: Local produce is often fresher, which means less spoilage and waste compared to goods transported from far away.

Shopping locally means your choices have a positive environmental impact by cutting down on unnecessary packaging and emissions, while promoting responsible farming practices.
