Text-a-Librarian is a service which enables you to use the text message feature of your mobile phone to send questions to and receive answers from Longmont Public Library staff. This is not a third party service; we will answer you!

• All you need is a mobile phone that is enabled to send and receive text messages.
• Text questions to us anytime during business hours. We will respond as soon as possible during those hours. Questions sent outside of service hours receive an automated response and are answered the next service day.
• Some keywords will trigger automated information responses even outside of business hours.  For example, you can text “hours” to this service at any time and receive an immediate text with the Library’s current hours.
• Spanish-speaking librarians are available, but responses may be slightly delayed due to staff scheduling.

Some details you should know:

• Some text messages can be delayed or even fail due to problems with the connections between different telephone carriers.
• The Library does not charge for this service, but charges from your cell phone provider may apply. These charges vary among plans and among telephone providers. The Library cannot assume any responsibility for charges your mobile phone provider may assess you for sending or receiving messages while using this service.
• This service is private and secure: Our text-to-chat service (MOSIO) assigns a random User ID number to each patron. Your phone number is never visible to us or accessible by us at any time. 

Exceptions: Texts that are harassing, libelous, threatening, harmful, or obscene, or violate any applicable laws will be reported to the Longmont Department of Public Safety and will be dealt with in an appropriate manner. Texts will be monitored and abuse of the system will result in being banned from the service.

Use our Ask-a-Librarian email service. Your email will go to a targeted mailbox and librarians on duty will pull it and either answer it or forward it to the best person in the Library to answer it.

Some quick guidelines:

• This service works best for questions with brief, factual answers.
• We are not able to answer legal or medical questions.
• Expect a response within two business days.
• All questions and answers are confidential.
• Include your Longmont Public Library card number when possible.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule? Please call the Adult Information Desk at 303-651-8472 to cancel. To reschedule, you will need to fill out the online form again and wait for someone to contact you.
