Featured Video: Too Good to Waste
See the science of how a landfill works and why turning food and yard waste into nutrient-rich compost for gardens, parks and farms is a better solution than burying it in a landfill. (The video comes from Canada, but the story applies everywhere!)
3 Ways to Start Composting
At Your Curb
In 2017, the City of Longmont added the option for customers to subscribe to curbside composting collection. This service is excellent for beginners because it makes composting so easy. Put your yard and food waste in the bin and we’ll take care of the rest! Discover the convenience of curbside composting >
In Your Backyard
People have been composting at home for ages. Like so many things we got away from as “modern life” took hold, the value of composting and the basic skills to do it are making a major comeback. If you are a little foggy on just how Grandpa used to tend his compost pile, Boulder County has you covered with some great training! Learn how to start composting at home >
At the Longmont Waste Diversion Center
We said it last week, and we’ll say it again: the Waste Diversion Center (WDC) is a hub for all things recycling, and that includes composting! Not only can you take limbs and leaves here to be made into mulch, but you can also bring all the same items accepted in the curbside composting program. So, if the curb or backyard options aren’t a good fit for you, no worries. Just collect your compostables and bring them to 140 Martin Street. Discover all the WDC has to offer >
