A Hand Up
A Hand Up
For two of our nieces, my wife Heather is “Aunt Hufu.” She’s the cool aunt, always ready to talk or play games or (in pre-virus times) share a sleepover.
For our disabled ward Missy, Heather is “Mom.” During my work day, she’s the one who helps Missy with her needs, works with her on activities and stays patient during occasional tantrums.
And for quite a bit of time in between, Heather is “Exhausted.” OK, that’s an understatement. She’s ready for the cavalry to arrive, so that she can go hibernate for about 75 years.
Helpers need help, too. The reliable need something to rely on.
That’s as true for Longmont as it is for a family. And it’s why earlier this month, the City created the Boost Longmont Business Grant.
Boost Longmont gives a hand up to the small businesses that keep Longmont going and the non-profits that help so many of our residents. Specifically, it offers them up to $15,000 to help meet expenses and losses related to the COVID-19 pandemic. That can include a LOT of things, such as safety modifications and training, inventory losses, debt payments, or even the utility bills for City services like LPC’s electricity and NextLight’s high-speed internet connection.
What do you have to do? Three things:
- You have to have 25 or fewer full-time employees
- You have to meet the grant’s eligibility requirements
- You have to have an application in by November 1, 2020.
If this could help your business or organization, go for it. If you know someone it could help, make sure they go for it. 2020 has been challenging to say the least, and this is a chance to smooth at least some of the bumps.
It’s hard for helpers to ask for help. But this is your time. And if you’re stronger, Longmont is stronger. So please, check out the website. Look it over. Let the City know what you need.
The cavalry is ready to roll.
