Air Quality Monitoring Temporarily Interrupted
The City of Longmont’s air quality monitoring data is available to residents in near-real time at www.bouldair.com/longmont.htm. This week, however, air quality monitoring on the west side of town will be temporarily interrupted while the station is relocated. Data collected at Union Reservoir will not be affected.
The City’s west side monitoring station is currently located at Longmont’s Vance Brand Airport and will be relocated to a new location near the bike trail on the east end of the Lykins Gulch Greenway. This project is scheduled to begin Tuesday, October 26, and completion is expected by the end of the month. Once moved, the air monitors at Lykins Gulch will continue track the presence of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane. The monitoring station will be visible from the Lykins Gulch bike path, which will increase public awareness of the monitoring program.
Longmont’s east side air monitoring station is located at Union Reservoir, where greenhouse gasses and a variety of oil and gas-related pollutants are measured. There are no plans to relocate this station. Both stations are operated by the City’s contractor Boulder AIR. The data gathered at the two stations is usually available in near real-time to interested residents at www.bouldair.com/longmont.htm. However, the public should expect to see some disruption to this data during the week.
The air quality monitors are expected to be in full operation before the end of October.
