Today (7/1/20) at 7:00am Longmont Fire put into service its long awaited Alpha Car known as Alpha 2120. This new unit is housed at Fire Station 3 on Pace St making this a multi-company firehouse. This unit has been in the fire strategic plan for 12 years and thanks to the voter approved Public Safety Tax Fund, it has finally become a reality. The purpose of Alpha 2120 is to handle the lower priority medical calls for service throughout the city, allowing the bigger engines to remain in service for the more critical medical calls and save on wear and tear and fuel cost. Additionally, this unit will serve as a backup to the transport system. When our front line ambulances are tied up on other calls, this unit can transport if necessary. This reduces the need to move firefighters off engine companies to staff reserve ambulances.
