Boston Avenue Bridge Reconstruction Project Hits Major Milestone

All Lanes Across Bridge Now Open

The City of Longmont and contractor Zak Dirt, Inc. have completed the north and south structures and paved the deck of the Boston Avenue bridge over St. Vrain Creek. This is a major milestone in the two-year project to extend the bridge and widen the channel underneath so it will better withstand major flood events.

The bridge is now fully open to all lanes of traffic and will remain open through the end of the project in the spring/summer of 2025. New bike lanes have been added and pedestrian sidewalks are also open across the bridge. The westbound left turn lane that provides access to S. Francis Street is also fully open.

The next phase of construction will focus on completing the St. Vrain Greenway underpass.  The paved trail will allow bicyclists and pedestrians to safely bypass or reconnect with Boston Avenue. Landscaping and irrigation in the bottom of the channel and along the greenway trail is also proceeding. The next phase of construction for the Resilient St. Vrain Project (RSVP) will be the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers channel construction. That project will begin just north of Boston Avenue and extend upstream under the S. Sunset Street Bridge.

Travelers are encouraged to continue yielding to construction trucks and equipment that will be onsite through next summer. Current project information and traffic impacts can be found on the Boston Avenue Bridge Reconstruction Project webpage.
