Bright Memories

Neon-lit Happy New Year 2024 in blue and goldA bright new year is under way for Longmont and we’re excited for it. But before we turn out the lights on 2023, let’s take a look back at some of the moments that truly glowed for our Longmont Power & Communications customers:

Always Reliable

Longmont residents know they have some of the most reliable power around – a typical customer can go two years without an outage – and that fact again drew the attention of the American Public Power Association, recognizing LPC’s overall excellence with its eighth straight Reliable Public Power Provider award. The honor reflects not just electric reliability, but also the safety, improvements and skilled workforce that all of Longmont’s electric customers depend on.

Planning ahead

2023 saw continued attention on the journey toward carbon-free energy, especially as our wholesale power provider, Platte River Power Authority, began conversations with all of its communities on a new Integrated Resource Plan, its “road map” to the region’s energy future. Keep watching the road: there’s still more ahead before the plan is finalized this summer.

A shocking display

If you came to Rhythm at Roosevelt, you got to see a fun bit of LPC news: Live Line has returned! The electric safety demonstration, where mini figures show how to behave safely around downed power lines has long been a crowd favorite and now has a brand-new set to … er, light things up. As you might guess, the new display generated a surge of interest.

Electrifying progress

Residents and businesses had more opportunities to learn about building electrification – helping buildings make the transition to all-electric system and appliances and away from carbon-based fuels – including a new electrification web page and a number of induction cooking demonstrations. (And if you’re thinking about making the shift to all-electric for your own home, here are some initial things to consider in preparing for electrification.)

Getting smart

The year took a brilliant turn when Longmont was recognized as a Smart Energy Provider, one of only four in Colorado. The Smart Energy Provider program recognizes utilities that are commited to energy efficiency, renewable energy and environmental initiatives. Succeeding in these areas takes an active, supportive community and we appreciate all of our customers who have helped provide that support.

So here’s to the year past, the year ahead and all of you who help make it great.

That’s pretty energizing.
