Building Community

We’ve talked before about how we believe in building community. About a week ago, we put our hammers where our mouth was.

That’s when around 50 workers from NextLight, LPC and a number of other City departments had the pleasure of stepping up to help Habitat for ""Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley build a home in Longmont’s Mountain Brook Development. As always on a Habitat build, it didn’t matter if your day job was providing customer service to residents or running the whole operation; if you could grab a hardhat and some tools, you were welcome.

Now, Colorado weather can get … prankish in the late summer and we did get one day with rainfall that belonged in a Noah’s Ark movie. But despite that brief interruption, the work kept getting done. The house kept getting built. A family’s need would be met.

At the end of it all, that’s the part that really matters. Always.

We know that Longmont’s residents take a lot of pride in their city’s services, whether it’s LPC’s 110 years of reliable power or NextLight’s ""jaw-dropping speeds that stun the nation. And yes, we enjoy seeing that. But none of this is really about generating bragging points. It’s about providing the foundation that the rest of the community can build on. It’s about meeting the needs of Longmont’s residents and businesses so they can do what they do best.

It’s about being a good neighbor. And building a good neighborhood.

Thank you for everything you do to make a better Longmont. We’re proud to support and celebrate you through all of it.

You might even say we’re ready to raise the roof.
