Button Rock Preserve Closure Due to Red Flag Warning and High Wind Event
Button Rock Preserve Closure Due to Red Flag Warning and High Wind Event
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Friday, December 19, indicating extreme fire weather conditions and a significant risk for rapid fire spread should any ignition occur. The warning affects areas including Button Rock.
In response, the City of Longmont is closing Button Rock Preserve effective tonight until Saturday, December 20. While Longmont itself is not expected to experience the most severe winds forecasted for Boulder County’s foothills areas, Button Rock Preserve’s proximity to the mountains places it in a higher-risk zone for extreme wind gusts during tomorrow’s powerful weather event. Out of an abundance of caution, the preserve will remain closed to protect public safety.
Closure Details:
Effective: Tonight, December 18, until Saturday, December 20
Reopening: Saturday, pending weather forecast updates
Any changes will be posted to the City website.
Residents are encouraged to monitor the City of Longmont’s website for updates on the preserve’s reopening status.
