This cultural and spiritual celebration is a time to remember loved ones who have passed and to celebrate their lives. The Aztec culture celebrated death as part of the cycle of life, leaving offering or temporary altars or “ofrendas” intended to assist them on their journey beyond death. This event will feature the creation of a beautiful community altar, where attendees are invited to contribute photos, mementos, candles and marigolds known as cempazúchilt to honor the departed.

Experience the sights, sounds, and flavors of this joyful occasion, with storytelling, activities for all ages, including crafts, face painting, decorate sugar skulls and more. Come learn about the rich history and customs of “La catrina” of Jose Guadalupe Posada through interactive displays, live music, a variety of hands-on activities and share traditional pan de muerto with chocolate.
This is a free, family-friendly event, and we encourage everyone to participate in this colorful and meaningful celebration of life and remembrance. In 2008, the tradition was inscribed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
