Update November 1, 2018:

The City has received an initial report from our insurance provider Chubb and their estimator Envista Forensics. The estimated cost for repairing Centennial Pool is $423,981. Chubb has issued an initial payment to the City of $325,464. This initial payment will allow us to begin the repair work.  The insurance policy has a $25,000 deductible, which will be paid out of the City’s self-insurance fund.  No other City funding will be needed for these repairs associated with the flooding. 

The City is currently working on a contract with TCC Corp for repairs. Work could begin as soon as November 5th, if the contract is complete and TCC has obtained all City permits.  It is estimated that the work will be completed by mid to late January.  

While the pool facility has been closed, the City is evaluating the general condition of the building and other facility improvements that we should consider while repairing the mechanical room. Any additional improvements we decide to make will be covered in the General Fund, not through insurance.

A faulty sump pump caused considerable damage to the mechanical room at Centennial Pool resulting in the closure of the entire building until further notice.

An initial assessment has determined that damage to all equipment and electrical service is significant. It’s expected that the Centennial Pool facility, which includes the pool and fitness rooms, will be without electricity for several weeks.

Earlier this week, in preparation for the annual closure of the pool for routine cleaning and maintenance, the system’s sump pump failed and water flooded the mechanical room with more than five feet of water.  After the water was drained, the inspection revealed all the damage. Based on the complexity of the electrical system, a coordinated evaluation effort will be completed between the electrician, electrical engineer, and the insurance adjuster.  It will take several weeks for the insurance provider to prepare the estimated cost of repairs and a time frame for when the pool can reopen.

• In an effort to continue services, the City’s Recreation Division will keep Sunset Pool open until early October – it was originally scheduled to close September 3. 
• The Recreation Center was scheduled for the annual closure the week of August 26, instead of a full closure, the leisure pool will close for two days.
• The lap pool at the Rec Center will not close. 
• The Recreation Center gym will also be closed for basketball court curtain replacement and floor resurfacing the week of August 26.
