City of Longmont celebrates the opening of Spring Gulch #2 and Improvements on County Line Road

On Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 9 a.m., the City of Longmont will hold a ceremony to celebrate the completion of Spring Gulch #2 and the recent improvements made to County Line Road between 9th and 17th Avenues. These improvements now provide safe multi-modal transportation options for residents and visitors to east Longmont, including:

  • On-street bike lanes on County Line Road between 17th Avenue and 9th Avenue
  • Sidewalks along the west side of County Line Road from 17th Avenue to 9th Avenue
  • The addition of a grade separated pedestrian crossing of County Line Road at Spring Gulch #2
  • Left-turn lanes along County Line Road
  • Trail connections at Jim Hamm Nature Area
  • The addition of a greenway trail segment between Stephen Day Park and Union Reservoir

In addition to these multi-modal improvements, aging infrastructure on County Line Road was replaced and the Spring Gulch #2 project introduced five acres of wetland to our community.

“The completion of these two projects marks significant progress in our goal to provide Longmont residents and visitors with a complete, balanced and connected transportation system as outlined in our Envision Longmont Plan ,” said Mayor Brian Bagley. “In addition to making County Line Road safer for all users, these improvements will also offer our community additional options for biking and walking in Longmont.”

The event will be held on the Spring Gulch #2 trail on the East Side of County Line Road, just north of 9th Avenue (see map). All members of the community are invited to attend – limited parking is available at the trailhead on County Line Road; please plan to carpool, walk or ride a bike if possible. The event will feature statements from Mayor Brian Bagley and City of Longmont employees who worked closely with the project; the presentation will last approximately 20 minutes with time for questions and mingling afterward. Light refreshments will be provided (water and coffee) – please bring a folding chair if you would like to be seated for the presentation.

A recording of the event will be available on the City of Longmont’s YouTube Channel a few days after the event.

Please note that due to the evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will proceed under protocols determined by the Boulder County Public Health Department.
