City to review, update infrastructure design standards

The City of Longmont will soon begin a review and update of its design standards and construction specifications for public infrastructure, including items such as streets, sewers, water, electric infrastructure, landscaping and irrigation, and other general requirements. These standards are technical in nature, applying to how particular public services and improvements are built.

An initial public meeting will be held Oct. 2 at the Development Services Center, 385 Kimbark St., starting at 5 p.m. in the Twin Sisters Conference Room. The meeting will review proposed updates to Section 100 (General Standards) and Section 700 (Longmont Power & Communications) of the design standards. These will then be brought to the City Council in October for its consideration and approval.

Most of the remaining standards are expected to be scheduled for review and approval later this year, except for Section 200 (Transportation) which is planned to be addressed in early 2026.

The draft design standards will be posted online at https://longmontcolorado.gov/planning-and-development-services/development-process/design-standards-update/.  The current City design standards can be found at https://longmontcolorado.gov/planning-and-development-services/development-process/development-and-design-standards/.
