Dreaming of a Wi-Fi Christmas

Festive gathering with hands holding smartphonesAs the holidays get closer, it’s a great time for friends and family to share the joy of the season. And as they gather, they’re usually sharing wi-fi, too … and no one wants to see their connection suddenly drop like Santa going down a chimney.

So before the  guests come together, it’s worth taking a few minutes to make sure your home network stays merry and bright … and with a high-powered WiFi6 router from NextLight to handle the traffic, it’s easy, too. Here’s a few tips from NextLight to help keep things on the jolly side:

  • Mind the lights: When a lot of Christmas lights are near a router, it can sometimes impact the signal. Find an open space for your unit that’s away from the decorations and other objects that could block or interfere with reception, such as furniture or metal objects and appliances.
  • Set up a guest network: Through our NextLight WiFi app (available through the App Store or Google Play), you can do this easily. Open the app and go to My Network and then click the plus sign in the upper right corner, where you can choose “Add Network.” Then choose “select type” and “guest,” and you’ll be given the chance to set the password and other details just the way you want them.
  • Reboot ahead of time: Before people start arriving, unplug your router for 30 seconds and then plug it back in to make sure your connection is refreshed and ready.
  • Consider a mesh unit: When guests are going to be all over, an inexpensive mesh extender from NextLight can help ensure total coverage for everyone, especially in a larger home. And like our WiFi, it’s leased month-to-month, so you only have to keep it for as long as you need it.

With everything in place, you can stay focused on fun. And that’s how the holidays should be.

We ho-ho-hope you agree.
