Fox Meadows Neighborhood Park Grand Opening Celebration
Join your neighbors in celebrating the grand opening of the Fox Meadows Neighborhood Park on Saturday, May 17 from 10 am to noon.
In addition to a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony, the event will include a dedication of a new Art in Public Places installation, snacks and refreshments, and games for all ages.
The brand-new park is located at 636 Deerwood Drive; south of Ninth Avenue and west of Weld County Road #1. Until now, this area of eastern Longmont was one of oldest sections of the City not served by a neighborhood park.
Welcoming visitors into the park will be a 15-foot-tall sculpture of a bugling bull elk standing atop a sculpted rock ledge. Created by Colorado-based steel sculptor Pavia Justinian, the piece was commissioned by Longmont’s Art in Public Places and is now part of their permanent collection. Justinian will join City dignitaries at the grand opening event and dedication.
Features in the new park include:
- Chess tables
- Half basketball court
- Nature discovery area
- Official size bocce court
- Restrooms
- Separate playgrounds for ages 2-5 and 5-12
- Shaded shelters
- Zipline
“We’re delighted to bring such a beautiful and diverse facility to the neighborhood,” said Longmont’s Director of Parks and Natural Resources David Bell. “We suspect the 82 foot-long zipline will be a huge hit with younger visitors, as will be the natural play areas and playgrounds. The bocce court and chess tables are just a few examples of the broad appeal of the features included in the new park.”
Guests attending the grand opening are encouraged to arrive on foot or by bicycle.
