HOW Much Speed?

When Longmont first connected to NextLight’s gigabit speeds in 2014, a lot of people said “A gig? Sounds grea""t! So what do I use all that speed for?”

Easy answer these days. Most of you could quickly fill in the blanks: to learn, to work, to relax with games and movies, to talk with friends and family across the country and around the world. And of course, to do all of the above simultaneously without a hitch.

Well, NextLight recently introduced multi-gig speeds. Which once again brings up a fair question: “Ten gigs! Wow!! How would anyone use that much speed?”

First of all, just how much power does a 10 gigabit connection provide? Well, UTOPIA Fiber in Utah estimated that 10 gig is enough speed to stream 1,700 movies simultaneously. That’s impressive … especially if you’re behind on catching up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But more seriously, the ultra-high speeds do have their uses … generally for people or businesses who need to make a  lot of high-capacity data transfers in the course of a day. That might include things like:

  • Detailed medical imagery
  • Professional video development
  • Hardcore professional gaming
  • Rapidly growing companies with a lot of network collaboration

So while it’s not an everyday tool, it can be an extremely useful one in the right circumstances. If that might be you or your company, take a look at the 2.5 gig and 10 gig options that NextLight provides and see how that might fit your needs.

And if the already-awesome high speeds of 1 gigabit are still more than enough for you, then rock on.  Keep using it to power your home, supercharge your business and make Longmont the awesome Gig+ City that it is. Bring your friends onboard (and remember that you get some great savings for doing so.)

After all, life in the fast lane is a lot of fun. No matter which fast lane you choose.
