Just Say No
The “City of Longmont utility billing department” is NOT calling residents/businesses asking you to purchase a prepaid card to pay for utilities or your power will be shut off. This is a scam that seems to hit the city around this time of year every year. Callers who are contacted are “advised” to purchase prepaid cards and provide the card numbers over the phone. NEVER give any information out to someone that YOU have not initiated the call to. If there is some doubt that you may owe money to a vendor or utility company, let them know that you are going to hang up and contact the vendor yourself. This way you can be sure that the person you are contacting actually works for the company and you can make payment arrangements at that time (or learn you are current on your bill). This is also true of callers asking for donations for non-profits. Please do not give any information out to someone who has initiated a call to YOU (ie credit card numbers, bank information, your address, etc.).
