Keeping an Eye Out

Heather and I had a lot of reasons for marrying. Love. Friendship. A weird delight in geeky trivia. But one of the biggest reasons, I’ve found, was so that we each have a spare brain on hand.

Head with Gear Brain and Question Mark“Honey, have you seen my glasses?”

“Scott, where’s the book I was just reading?”

“OK, my phone was just in my hand …”

She has some memory fuzz from MS and I’m … well … a space case when it comes to organization, so we have these conversations often. The funny thing is how frequently it works. Most of the time, all it takes is a different set of eyes to find something that was out of place. That’s a great help in a family.

Or in a community.

Pedestal Light in EveningOne of the great parts about being a community-owned electric utility is that our customers take a lot of pride in their service. And there’s a lot of reason for it, such as our long history, our status as a Smart Energy Provider, or even having some of the lowest electric rates in the state.

That community pride also means we have a lot of eyes helping out when it comes to keeping our street lights shining. Longmont has over 12,000 street lights and we give them regular maintenance and attention. But like a lot of people, our crews mostly work during the day.

The best time to see if a street light has gone out, naturally, is at night. And that’s where the community shines. Whether they’re walking the dog or heading to the store or just coming back from a late shift at work, if someone spots a light that’s dimming or burned out, they let us know. It makes us better – and all of Longmont better, too.

So keep your eyes open. If you happen to see a street light that needs fixing, jump onto our website at any time and fill out a street or pedestal light report. Or just call us during the day at 303-651-8386. Either way, we’ll be glad to take care of it.

Now, where did I put those glasses …?
