Lane Closures Starting May 27 for Quiet Zones Construction at the 17th Avenue Railroad Crossing
May 23, 2025 – Starting Tuesday May 27, the westbound lanes of 17th Avenue will be closed from Lashley Street to Meadow Street through midday Thursday, May 29. At that time, traffic will switch over to a closure of the eastbound lanes on 17th Avenue between Meadow Street and Lamplighter Drive through Friday, May 30 and again on Monday, June 2.
This is the first phase of safety improvements at the 17th Avenue railroad crossing for the Quiet Zones project. A Quiet Zone is a section of railroad where trains do not routinely sound their horns at road crossings. For more information, visit the project webpage.

Commuters traveling westbound on 17th Avenue will need to detour at Lashley Street to Mountain View Avenue.

Residents on the south side of 17th Avenue east of the railroad tracks can access properties from eastbound 17th Avenue. Westbound access will be from Lashley Street and Gardner Drive to Lamplighter Drive and then eastbound on 17th Avenue.

Residents on the north side of 17th Avenue east of the railroad track will need to use Lashley Street to Antero Drive and Shavano Street.
From midday Thursday May 29 – Friday May 30 and Monday June 2

Commuters traveling eastbound on 17th Avenue will need to detour at Main Street to Mountain View Avenue. Local access will be open to Centennial Drive.

Residents on the north and south sides of 17th Avenue east of the railroad tracks can access properties from westbound 17th Avenue. Eastbound access will be from Mountain View Street to Lashley Street and then westbound on 17th Avenue.

Residents on the north and south sides of 17th Avenue west of the railroad tracks will have local access from westbound and eastbound 17th Avenue.

Both directions of 17th Avenue will be open across the railroad tracks during the weekend of May 31-June 1. The eastbound closure will resume for one day on Monday, June 2.
On Tuesday June 3, all lanes on 17th Avenue will open to through traffic with intermittent lane closures for approximately two months. Traffic will be allowed to travel eastbound and westbound in at least one lane across the railroad tracks.
Construction at the 9th Avenue crossing is expected to begin in mid-June and will include similar temporary lane closures and one-way traffic, as needed. Construction at the 3rd Avenue/Atwood Street and at Longs Peak Avenue/Atwood Street crossings is anticipated to start in July. Full road closures at these crossings will be required.
Regular construction hours are Monday – Friday from 7 am – 5 pm. Some work may occur until 7 pm and also on Saturdays, as necessary. Detour signs will direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic to alternate routes, as needed.
