Assistant City Manager Shawn Lewis was officially appointed City Manager of Englewood during a meeting of the Englewood City Council on Monday. He has served as Longmont’s Assistant City Manager since January 2013. Lewis will assume his new role in Englewood on August 5^th, and his last day at his office in Longmont will be July 12^th.

During his tenure in Longmont, Lewis reorganized the City’s former Economic Development Department, creating a new Planning & Development Services Department and standalone Redevelopment Division. Lewis also reduced City costs and enhanced services by outsourcing economic development functions to the Longmont Economic Development Partnership.

“Englewood is fortunate to have Shawn,” said Harold Dominguez, Longmont City Manager. “I have worked with him for over 12 years and appreciate his contribution during challenging times. He was instrumental during the flood of 2013 and has always faced the toughest challenges in Longmont with energy and clarity. I wish him every success in this next chapter of his career – he will be missed.”

Lewis co-chaired the Advance Longmont Economic Development Strategic Plan, which provided the city’s first target industries analysis to improve recruitment efforts for new business. He also co-chaired staff committees that created the policies to provide for marijuana stores within the city and overhauled the marijuana home grow regulations.

To address resident and employee concerns about safety and usability at City facilities, Lewis led a new Safe & Welcoming Public Spaces Task Force. The task force trained over 300 staff in how to engage people exhibiting bad behavior in City facilities and developed several new policies and ordinances, such as new Standards of Behavior within City facilities, smoke-free campuses in the downtown area, and RV parking regulations.  

Working with Airport Manager David Slayter, Lewis assisted in the creation of new Rules and Regulations and Minimum Standards for operators at Vance Brand Airport, creating marketing and wayfinding plans for the facility, and correcting long-standing water service issues.

Lewis serves on the board for a number of professional and service organization including the Longmont Twin Peaks Rotary Club, I Have a Dream Foundation of Boulder County, Commuting Solutions transportation management organization, and the ICMA Smart Cities Committee. He was awarded the 2014 Larry Nelson Service Award by Twin Peaks Rotary, 2015 Life Saver Award for Longmont Meals on Wheels, and the 2016 Community Advocate of the Year by the Latino Chamber of Boulder County.
