Celebrate Longmont’s Cinco de Mayo on May 4, 2019, from 11 am to 7 pm  Roosevelt Park,700 Longs Peak Avenue.

This year’s 17th annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration is an event that celebrates culture and honors the health of the community. Longmont’s Cinco de Mayo Celebration already has a long history of being a healthy, family-oriented event through its alcohol- & tobacco- free standard. This fun family event includes various musical and dance entertainment groups, vendor and informational booths, a car show, and tons of great food! 

Many organizations will be participating and providing health related services and messages, promoting unity in our community and celebrating culture. The Cinco de Mayo celebration aims to create awareness of the many diverse cultures that exist in our county and create a better understanding and recognition of the contributions of Latino Culture in the Longmont community. 

Despite what many assume, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence day. The holiday of Cinco de Mayo, the 5th of May, commemorates the victory of the Mexican militia over the French army at The Battle of Puebla in 1862. Although it is celebrated primarily in Puebla’s Mexican State Capital and throughout its state, celebrations also occur in U.S. cities with a significant Latino population.

Family Fun, Food, and Shopping  
Every year there is a variety of food, lots of vendor booths for shopping, and many fun activities for kids in the Kid’s Tent. There also are many non-profit booths and other vendors with information on resources that are available to you here in Longmont.

Car Show 
This year’s car show will be hosted from 2 to 5 pm in the South Parking Lot at Roosevelt Park. Judging starts at 2 pm and Trophies will be awarded at 5 pm on the Main Stage! All Entries must register between 10 am  to 2 pm and have a signed Liability Waiver on file to participate in this show. Entry fees are as follows: $25 for Cars, $15 for Bikes, and Free for “Under Construction” entries

Break Dancing Battle
This year we are featuring a new event the first annual break dancing competition. Break EFX presents “The Mexican Standoff,” Longmont’s first B-boy/B-girl battle. The event will feature a 2v2 adult and 1v1 (16 and under) youth contest. A local DJ will provide tunes, and local judges Chase “Chase em Down” Evered, Eppie Deleon, and Jacob “Data” Flesher. There is $300 cash prize for the adult contest and $100 cash prize for youth. A signed Liability Waiver on file to participate contest.

Cinco de Mayo organizers hope is to bring diverse communities together to educate, share, appreciate and enjoy each other’s differences, as well as give each other an opportunity to learn about the many resources we have right here in our community.
