Longmont Celebrates the Chinese New Year

Celebrate the Chinese New Year on Saturday, February 4, 2023, from 2-5 pm at Silver Creek High School (4901 Nelson Road). This zero-waste event is free, open to the public, and will feature live performances, cultural games, hands-on activity booths, and Chinese food samplings.

The Chinese Lunar New Year, also known as the “Spring Festival,” marks the beginning of spring, a time to shed the hardships of winter and prepare for a season of change and hope. In celebration of the season, Longmont’s 2023 festivities will include live performances by the Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu Association, Denver Taiko, the Qi Zhou Design Studio, the Longmont Youth Symphony and the Bohua Chinese School.

Guests of all ages are welcome to explore activity booths – featuring Chinese brush painting, origami, paper cutting and much more – and participate in a variety of cultural games. Food samplings will also be offered, from egg rolls to orange chicken, steamed broccoli to fried sesame rice balls.

Doors open at 1:30 pm and the Lion Dance and activities begin at 2 pm. The festival is presented by the Asian-Pacific Association of Longmont, Colorado and hosted by the Silver Creek Leadership Academy. To learn more and download a printable flyer visit apalconnect.org.
