Longmont City Council Discusses Inclusionary Housing
At its January 30, 2018 meeting, the City Council Council passed a motion to establish an Inclusionary Housing program in Longmont. Council authorized staff to work with the consultants that previously conducted affordable housing research and analysis for the City during the Envision Longmont process, to update market data and conduct additional research that can inform Council about how to best structure an Inclusionary Housing program to address Longmont’s affordable housing needs.
The City’s Inclusionary Housing program deals with ongoing affordable housing issues for the Longmont workforce. The meeting, Information was presented on the City’s prior Inclusionary Housing program as well as issues/items to consider around implementing a new program.
As part of the information given to the Council is a Policy Focus Report on Inclusionary Housing, published by the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy. This report does a good job of outlining the Inclusionary Housing mechanism, its many purposes, how it operates in other communities and what should be considered when looking at this mechanism as one of a community’s Affordable Housing tools.
