Longmont Library empowers community with free digital services, computer classes

The Longmont Library continues its mission of serving the community by offering an array of valuable digital resources and computer education opportunities at no cost. In today’s increasingly digital world, access to technology and the skills to use it are more important than ever, and Longmont Library is dedicated to bridging the digital divide.

The Longmont Library’s offerings include:

  • Free Computer Classes: The Library hosts free computer classes on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 6:30-7:30 pm for individuals of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced users. These classes cover topics such as basic computer skills, internet browsing, Microsoft Office applications, design programs, and more. View upcoming classes at bit.ly/LibTechClasses or call the Computer Lab at 303-651-8769
  • Computer Labs: The Library provides access to computer labs equipped with modern technology, allowing individuals to work on projects, research, or access essential online services. Computers and iPads designed just for kids and teens are available in the Children and Teen Services area, as well.
  • Mobile Printing: Patrons can print documents from their personal devices within the Library, making it easier to access important information and resources.
  • Scan/Fax Services: The Library offers scan and fax services, enabling community members to send and receive important documents and information digitally.
  • Research Databases: With just your library card, you can access dozens of premium information services that aren’t available for free any place but libraries. Visit bit.ly/Lib-Research to access databases including Ancestry.com for Libraries, Academic Search Premier, Auto Repair Source, MorningStar Investment Research Center, World Book Encyclopedia Online, Gale LegalForms and more.

Library Director Jon Solomon emphasizes the vital role these services play in the community, saying, “In today’s digital age, access to technology and digital literacy are fundamental. We recognize that not everyone has the resources or skills to navigate this landscape, and our mission is to empower every member of our community. The Longmont Library is a place where individuals can learn, explore, and access the tools they need.”

These services are essential, especially in light of the ongoing challenges posed by the digital divide. Many individuals, particularly under-served populations, struggle to access critical services, apply for jobs, complete homework, or connect with family and friends without reliable access to technology. The Longmont Library’s commitment to digital inclusion helps bridge this gap and promotes digital equity for all.

Everyone is encouraged to explore these free resources and classes, ensuring that Longmont remains a place where all community members have the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
