Longmont Library to host film screening of “The Street Project”

The Longmont Library is pleased to announce a screening of “The Street Project,” a documentary by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, Jennifer Boyd. Her film shines a spotlight on traffic violence and tells the inspiring story of a global citizen-led fight for more street safety.

The screening will take place in the City Council Chambers, located within the Civic Center, 350 Kimbark St. from 6-7:30 pm on Thursday, Oct. 17. A member of the Longmont Transportation Planning department will join us to discuss transportation safety initiatives in our city after the viewing.

The documentary opens with a sequence of troublesome TV reports of pedestrians being fatally struck by cars. To help us understand the how and why of traffic violence, Boyd presents a variety of voices and data she has collected over four years. Among her sources are street historian Peter Norton, city planner Jeff Speck, and urban design expert Mikael Colville-Andersen.

Each of these stories is brought to life with energetic, sometimes chaotic cinematography shot from high-traffic areas around the nation. The mix of perspectives add authenticity and texture, and the result is an honest, eye-opening look into how we move, flow and interact with one another on our streets.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to delve into the complex system of roads, walkways and more that make up cities’ transportations systems across the nation. This screening is free to attend, however registration is required at bit.ly/LibAdults or by calling Adult Services at 303-651-8472. This program will be shown in English with Spanish subtitles.
