Longmont Museum to Reopen July 7
Longmont Museum to Reopen July 7
LONGMONT, Colo. – The Longmont Museum will reopen its doors on July 7, 2020, after being closed since mid-March due to COVID-19.
The Museum is opening with a host of new procedures in place to help ensure the safety of visitors, volunteers and staff, including enhanced cleaning and sanitation, limitations on the number of people allowed in the building at a time, signage for physical distancing, and reduced hours. Temporary reopening hours will be from 9 am – 3 pm Tuesday through Saturday; the Museum will be closed Sunday and Monday.
Visitors age 3 and older are required to wear masks at the Museum. Disposable masks will be available free of charge for people who arrive without one.
The Museum has extended its special exhibition, “Terry Maker: Because the World is Round,” through September 13 to welcome back visitors.
According to Denver Post critic Ray Rinaldi, Colorado artist Terry Maker’s magic is in “hiding odd, sometimes uneasy, surprises below polished surfaces.” That magic is on full display in this unique exhibit Maker created especially for the Longmont Museum. Maker mines commonplace materials, cutting and re-combining them into dense and tactile wall reliefs and large-scale freestanding sculptures. An exhibition catalog is available online and in the Museum’s Gift Shop.
The Museum’s permanent exhibit documenting 14,000 years of human history in the St. Vrain Valley, “Front Range Rising,” will also be open. Hands-on areas of the Museum, including the third floor Longs Peak Room treehouse, will remain closed at this time.
Programming, including summer camp and the annual Summer Concert Series, will continue to be virtual during this phase of reopening. Visit longmontmuseum.org to learn more about Museum programming and download the full Summer 2020 Newsletter.
