LONGMONT, Colo. – Geysers, whirlpools, and laminar jets are just a few of the attractions at the Longmont Museum’s new outdoor exhibit, Splash Factory! This exhibition, originally created by the Children’s Museum of Denver, brings the physics of water to the Longmont Museum.  The exhibit is now open and will run through September 14, 2014.

Three components examine different aspects of water and its behavior. The “Blank Slates” provide creative expression, allowing children to use water to “paint” on blank slate easels. “Geysers” shows the power of combining water and compressed air, shooting more than 30 feet into the sky when fully pumped – and then raining to earth on children and bystanders alike. Visitors to the “Whirlpool and Fountain” area may try to balance a ball on a jet of water, or experience the power of a whirlpool.

“We are so excited to share Splash Factory with the Longmont community!” said Ann Holley, Curator of Education at the Longmont Museum.  “This outdoor exhibit engages children’s natural curiosity through experimental science education, and the best part is that it is really really fun!”

Splash Factory will be at the Longmont Museum throughout the summer, providing parents, children, and caregivers an opportunity to continue learning in a fun and safe environment while school is out. Combined special exhibition admission to Splash Factory and the Longmont Museum’s indoor summer exhibition, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, is $5 for adults, $3 for students/seniors (62+) and free for ages 3 and under.
