Longmont Officer Involved Shooting December 31, 2018

The Boulder County Investigations Team is currently investigating an Officer Involved Shooting which occurred in the 2200 block of Pratt St., Longmont, CO. The following description is based on preliminary information and recordings from dispatch.

Longmont Officer Involved Shooting Dec 31 2018The Longmont Emergency Communications Center received a call from a male, residing at the Glen Ridge Apartment Complex, 2211 Pratt St., Building C, reporting that he tried to shoot himself with a six shot revolver and that he was using meth and heroin.

Officers responded to the area and contacted the suspect who was a passenger in a vehicle, just south of the complex. During the traffic stop officers requested the suspect to follow officer instructions. The suspect told the officers and dispatchers who he was on a cell with that he was armed, and that he would kill the officers and/or civilians. As the standoff continued, the suspect exited the vehicle and ran toward the occupied apartment complexes with his hand wrapped in a jacket. An officer then fired a shot from his rife.

The suspect then ran to Building B and broke into a ground level apartment through a living room window. Both residents confronted the suspect and exited.

The suspect was found inside the apartment by a SWAT robot at approximately at 6:48 a.m and was pronounced deceased by paramedics. The cause of the suspects death has not been determined.

The suspect, has been identified as Jesus M. Ramos, (12/22/1984), age 34, from Longmont. Jesus Ramos has a significant criminal history.

Per policy, the involved officer, will be placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Boulder County Critical Incident Investigations Team is a countywide team developed by the Boulder County Chief Executive Officers and are responsible for investigating cases involving the use of deadly force. The team is made up of detectives from Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder P.D., Longmont P.D. Lafayette P.D., Louisville P.D., CUPD, Colorado State Patrol and advisors from the District Attorney’s Office.
