Longmont Peace Officer Memorial on Friday, May 14, 2021
Thank you to all of those police officers who go above and beyond to make a positive impact in their communities.
In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
In 2020, there were 362 officers killed in the line of duty. In 2021, as of today, 119 officers have lost their lives in the line of duty. There are over 900,000 law enforcement officers in the United States.
Due to impacts of COVID, the 2021 Longmont Peace Officers Memorial has been pre-recorded. It will be available on Friday, May 14 at 5pm. You may watch the program at http://bit.ly/2021LongmontPeaceOfficerMemorial. This event is hosted every year by the Longmont Public Safety Chaplains.
